Principal's Message

Tara Bruce

Dear Crouse Families:

I hope this letter finds you in good health and spirits.  I hope your summer has afforded you all an opportunity to be safe and healthy while enjoying some of the warm weather.  I want to commend everyone for their flexibility, adaptability and understanding during this unexpected global health crisis. Even though we are facing many uncertainties and challenges, Crouse CLC is committed to keeping the health and safety of our students, staff and families as of the utmost importance.

As you may be aware, Ohio Governor Mike Dewine in partnership with the Ohio Department of Public Health and Center for Disease Control has provided guidance and framework for reopening schools this Fall. After countless hours and careful consideration of all the potential avenues to start school, our Board of Education has decided to start the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year remotely.  This was not an easy decision, but one that places our students, families and staff in the safest environment to begin the school year.  Additionally, the Board of Education approved delaying the start of the school year with a staggered start beginning September 10.  The dates will be shared later in this correspondence.

Our Reopening Schools Committee has been meeting to discuss the implementation of a thoughtful school reopening plan which will be 100% online virtual learning for the first nine weeks.  Please know that Akron Public Schools will be offering a much more robust online virtual learning program, with increased live instruction and interaction between students and teachers. Our task force team of administrators and teachers are working diligently to redesign a new improved virtual learning program, which will better equip students and teachers in a virtual learning environment. Our reopening plans will focus sharply on academic instruction to enhance student performance, address learning loss, and meet the diverse needs of all our students which include, physical, mental, and social well- being of our students.

That being said, it is important for us to keep in mind that the 2020-2021 school year staggered start dates are as follows:

September 10 – Grades 2-4

September 11 –  Grade 5

September 14 –  Grades KDG & 1

In an effort to ensure we are all on the same page for the Fall, please read below some important information to ensure that the school year starts off well.

Student Classroom Assignments

Homeroom Assignments for students in grades 1 through 5 are listed on the front of the envelope on the mailing label.  Kindergarten student homeroom assignments will be posted on the main doors by September 11th.

Just like during in person learning students will have a set schedule based on their grade level. It is extremely important that you work to ensure that your child is signed in to their Google Classroom daily.  Students are expected to be present for Google Meets daily and complete required assignments.  The student day is from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

As we get ready to open a new school year, I also want to draw your attention to the importance of school attendance. As you know, Crouse has focused on improving attendance over the years and we continue to work hard to make sure our students attend school regularly, but we need your help.

Attendance will be monitored in the morning sessions (before lunch) and the afternoon sessions (after lunch). Encouraging regular school attendance is one of the most powerful ways you can prepare your child for success – both in school and in life. When you help us make school attendance a priority, you help your child get better grades, develop healthy life habits, and have a better chance of graduating from high school ready to meet all that life’s challenges may have in store for them successfully!

It is our desire to keep you informed of all that is taking place at school.  All correspondence (except in the case of an emergency) will primarily be sent home via email on Fridays. Correspondence will include our Friday Notes, parent letters and other important parent communication.   Friday Notes will also appear on our school webpage  Please be sure that we have an updated email address on file as all communication will be sent home via email.

Please listen to the Friday ALL Calls for weekly updates. You will receive an All Call of upcoming events every Friday at 6:00.  Thank you for listening to the entire message for details of school events and messages.  There is no need to return a call to the school.

If you have questions or concerns that arise at any time, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher during their office hours, via email or contact our main office.  I look forward to having a long and rewarding relationship with you and your family.
